Made the following second attempt last night with average seeing (could have been better) in Florida. C8 using SPC-900 10 FPS, gamma set to "0" via sharpcap but still seeing banding, even w/o any sharpening.

Kick your gain up a bit (watch your histogram). The second image especially looks very very promising. Fabulous attempt you have there!

I was under the impression the "onion ring effect" comes from trying to stretch the luminance where the original dynamic range wasn't high enough to do so.

In other words, make sure the data at capture time covers as much of the histogram as possible (you ARE using FireCapture, right?) without clipping.

Even still, for an SPC900, that must have been a night of great seeing! Well done.

Thanks for the tips. I will adjust gain and or exposure to cover the histogram as much as I can. I think this is what's holding me back. I'm using sharpcap to capture. Should I be using Firecapture? : -)
