I've been looking around for a small ED or apo refractor lately, and noticed that Stellarvue has the SVR90T-25SV (carbon fiber OTA, 90mm Raptor triplet with 2.5" Stellarvue focuser) on sale.

List price is $1995. Until today, it was listed as $1695 on a pre-order basis. From today until Valentine's Day, Vic is selling these for $1495.

Not bad for a F/7 carbon fiber triplet that weighs 6.8 Lbs.!

And yes, I ordered one. Now I have to tell my wife :throwveg:

I've been loving my ST80, especially in winter when it's too cold for long session, but the lack of contrast and inability to take high mags has pushed me into the premium optics camp.

Best,
David

P.S. According to Vic, he orders telescope glass about 3x/ year. The previous delivery was not up to standard, and he sent it back. (I guess that's maybe why the scope was on "pre-order" until today.)

Vic said that for the latest delivery, Stellarvue and OPT jointly purchased about twice the volume of glass that Stellarvue normally buys. This enabled Stellarvue to get it at a better price, and they decided to discount the scopes.

Thanks, Scott. I thought some folks might want to know about the sale.

It comes with a case and tube rings. The Stellarvue site states that the case is the C18 (larger size), whereas OPT states it is the C17 (airline size). I don't know if one site is erroneous, or if the two vendors are offering different cases.

I'm going to see if it rides okay on my cheapo SLT mount!

I love the SLT mount for the ST80. For what they are/do they are a steal. Good luck with the premium Raptor.

Just tell your wife you need more 'fiber' in your diet.

The best thing about owning one is opening the case with others around.

"oooooooooh . . . wow, is that a telescope? How come it looks so kewl?!"

Thank you all for your kind words. Well, someone who owed me money had repaid me, so she didn't complain too much.

Now I'm just waiting impatiently for the scope. I ordered it a week ago Thursday, and Vic said he would ship this past Monday. I never got a tracking number so I sent status check e-mails on Thursday and Friday, but no reply.

I guess I have to make a phone call on Monday.

Ugh... Just pulled the plug as well on this. Need a travel scope. The excuses we can find to buy astro gear... The wife figured it out in two seconds flat that I was ordering more gear. Thank the stars she is an understanding and supporting lady..
