I am trying to do my part to help you guys with the cold weather. I drive my 4X4 that gets about 10mpg everywhere I go and I have a lead foot. If you want I can go out and leave it running in the driveway for a little bit every day if you think that'll help.

What really s#*$%, is that the weather was clear, great night for viewing last night...and I didn't get out. Tonights the DAS public viewing open house at Chamberlin Observatory. Maybe I'll pack up the dob and go...maybe get someone to help me use the glatter/tublug better.

Partly cloudy and in the 40's now but VERY windy. Suppose to be only in the 30's tonight and tomorrow night....I can deal with that.

The sky is clear, saw Moon and Jupiter close .

But it is 12 degrees F with wind making it feel colder! And it will likely get near ZERO by dawn.

Yesterday I splurged on insulated coveralls ,insulated hood ,insulate pac boots, and head/face cover.

But using the face cover over my mouth and nose results in it becoming soaked with breath moisture and fogging my glasses. In lower position, the face cover does an excellent job of keeping my neck and chim warm but the oxygen intake orifice is exposed! --I mean my NOSE gets COLD!!!

Still need those observatory walls to shelter from the wind.

I remember those arctic blasts. In Greenland, we called them "Phases". Phase III was like hurricane force winds with snow (and the ever popular -40 or so). These would sometimes last for days as the winds blew off the icecap. Wasn't fun....that kind of weather is truely unforgiving....

It was the coldest here -2 degrees F. I have seen in a few years. Some parts of the Great Lakes got down to -40 degrees F. while the North Pole was only -6 degrees F. I hate to research on Mt. Washington in New Hampshire where the winds are blowing at 78 MPH with 100 MPH gusts. The wind chill at -90 & the actual temp at -40 degrees F. :coldday:

Well I guess I can't complain then eh.
I thought about viewing with the dob tonight but it's suppose to be down to 5f and with wind chill -10. So I am staying in tonight and will just get 5 min with the binos now and then.

Yo Spartans -

Spoiled California Boy here. 32F is my line.
Then only 1/2 hr. Run out take the cover off the
6se goto. Solar system align on Hupiter see
two or three highlites. Unplug put cover on
run back in and thaw out. Life is good.
even at 70.

As a spoiled California boy turned even more spoiled Phoenix, Arizona boy (with a stint living in Hawaii many years ago), even with a jacket on, once the temperature drops below about 55 to 60 degrees, forget it! :coldday: I'm putting away the binoculars and seeking my nice warm apartment!

One hundred degrees? Bring it on!
