I was saving my pennies to get me a SkyShed observatory. The price has jumped up a ton in the past 4 months, when did this happen? The new prices are ridiculous!

They had a message on their website for quite some time saying that they were going to be raising the prices. I purchased before the first of the year to avoid the increase. I have to give them credit for trying to let people know ahead of time.

Yeah, my luck at being away from a computer for long lengths of time due to my work. Looks like I will be finding a different observatory. Can't justify spending $3000+ for a plastic observatory and shipping.

The biggest reason for the price increase is probably the big devaluation of the US dollar compared to the Canadian dollar.

Nothing that Skyshed could do anything about.

You're correct Chris,

Plus ever increasing prices from suppliers. We held the old prices for as long as possible and posted the price increase notice on the POD website and in our POD Yahoo groups for months.

We hate to do it but we had no choice.

I have plans for a dome observatory that I will be building this spring. Original builder says cost was about $500. Took him 3 wks to build with essentially nothing more than a hammer, jigsaw, router. If you want them...PM me and I will pass along.

That's the nature of business, inflation catches up to you sometimes and you need to raise you're prices. I think the PODs are fairly priced. It was shipping cost that prevented me from getting one.

Everything goes up...

The original objective that Exploradome had was to be able to sell a stand alone dome for under $1000...

They did it.... but BUT today the price is a lot more...and you sure can buy more then just the dome..

I was lucky and helped design the darn thing here on Cloudy Nights so I benefited by getting a very good introductory price... To be honest I feel like I stole it...

Profit is not a dirty word...its a necessary requirement of any business...
