As per the title. Currently have a PGR Chameleon for solar and may start doing some planetary imaging.

The frame rate on the Chameleon is not the best but can still do it.

The recent images and specs of the ASI120MM look amazing  apart from the bit rate. What other camera in the same price bracket can do 16 bit? :help:

(*Yay for another 16-bit thread!)

No it can't do 16-bit. But are you sure you really need it? What kind of gain levels do you normally use when imaging the sun?

I'm not familiar with any similarly priced camera's performing as well as the ASI120MM to be honest.

Hi Emil

Thank you for replying and for AS! I use it regularly but I would like it to to handle 16bit files (.SER)!... ;)

I do use some gain in my Ha imaging but you are correct that little is needed if any. I may be mistaken here but I do tend to get better results from 16bit streams than from 8bit streams after using the same processing routines in PS C6. It may be my imagination but I do think I end up with more artifacts in the 8bit image.

In any case, my question was about similarly priced cameras to the PGR Chameleon and ASI120MM that were 16bit. Are there any?

Thanks!

It can handle them. At least the last time I checked (which I admit is a long time ago!). If it doesn't work for you, please send me a small sample of a 16-bit SER file so I can have a look for you.

I apologise in advance if this should have worked for me. I will check as soon as I get to my imaging laptop. No doubt you are right! :o
