I googled and found two: Astronomy and Sky & Telescopes.

Which one is worth my money? I am tempted to call both and request sample issues.

Both in all likelihood can be seen in your local library. Or can be sampled at your local Barnes and Noble.

If you wish to subscribe S&T is the best magazine.

I prefer to have something in my hands, nicer on the eyes.

I have subscribed to both; I lean more towards Astronomy, for myself!

Both are good but I prefer S&T. There are months that the other does have good articles and I buy that one as well. There is also the UK mag Sky at Night which is also pretty good.
Try the S&T website. I usually go there after reading an issue to read more that may not have made it to print.
I buy mine at a local Newsbreak store that carries these three and a couple of smaller scope mags.

For a few months I tried both, but I found that astronomy is a more scientific magazine and S&T leans more on the observing side. But I liked astronomy a little more so I have had astronomy for about a year now.

Exactly what I was about to say except I lean more towards S&T for the observing info. I always pick up a copy of the latest S&T(really need to renew that subscription) and flip through Astronomy on the shelf and only pick it up if there is a promising looking article or two.

That's basically what I do.

I just bought BBC Sky at Night, and I liked it. Good articles, learned a lot from it. But its expensive

I picked up Astronomy at an airport newsstand last weekend when I was traveling. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Packed with great info. I can't speak to S&T, because I've never read it.

I subscribe to both Astronomy & Sky and Telescope. Sky & Telescope has the REALLY annoyning habit of mailing out a re-subscribe notice about every 6 weeks. Why? Another case of the marketing dweebs running the show? REALLY annoying! If there comes a time when I decide to eliminate one I know which it'll be.

I gotten both since 1980. I depend on both of them. It's not a "Coke vs. Pepsi" or "Ford vs. Chevy" thing. They each deliver things I need and don't want to be without. I dislike digital versions of magazines. I want something 'real'.

I just started a subscription to Sky & Telescope. It just seemed more practical for actually getting out and observing, plus it had better spiffs.

I just subscribed to Amateur Astronomy, and give it a thumbs up. More geared to the observer than either S&T or Astronomy (I get both). The downside is that it only comes out quarterly.

I've had a subscription to Astronomy for yrs now. After reading that alot of you liked Sky & Telescope better I decided to subscibe to that too. It's funny though, I got it for $29.95 through one site and to order it directly from them it would of been $37.95.

Astronomy recently did a redo. They made the type face noticeably smaller, and difficult for me to read--so I cancelled after more than 30 years of subscribing. I kept Sky and Telescope, and began new subscriptions to Amateur Astronomy and Astronomy Technology Today.

I got to say I have to stand up and say Sky & Telescope is the way to go I read it cover to cover each month. Great articles and great sky charts for the month. Not to mention Tony Flanders is the man ! :waytogo:

Astronomy mag does the same thing to me only its every 4 weeks starting about 6 months before its due. But, for me that is not reason enough to cancel it. I like both S&T and Astronomy.

100% agree.

Recommend buy an issue of all of them, that's what I did.. Something to be learned and enjoyed from all!
