Just joined my local club. The Fort Bend Astronomy Club. I am not a social animal by nature, but am excited about the benefits of membership and getting to meet people with the same passion for astronomy.

Any fellow members here on CN? I look forward to my first club meeting which just happens to be tomorrow.

I'm not in that club, but the "Bendonites" are well known at TSP! It is a good club, welcome!

Thanks.

Enjoyed my first meeting. They had two lectures. One about the history of Chinese astronomy and the other about research done by a Rice professor on Planetary Nebulas using data from the Hubble space telescope. They discovered that in addition to super nova, planetary nebulas are major contributors to the generation of elements such as carbon and nitrogen. They also have an excellent outreach program called astronomy on wheels where they visit schools and churches.
