I expect to receive very soon my new limited edition Blue GT81 from Agena Astro. I looks like I got the last one, since after I ordered mine it appeared as out of stock. It includes the finder rings, a 2.5" rack and pinion focuser and the field flattener.

However, looking at the forums, it seems that not a lot of people talk about this scope model. Is there a problem with it or any issue related to its performance?

Thanks!

Congrats on the new scope! I don't think there are many owners of this scope yet.

By the way. We want pictures.

Great scope. The optics are crystal clear. Your going to enjoy it. I know I am!!! I went up to 203X and could see Jupiter and a few bands pretty clear. The scope is a work of art. Love the blue anodized aluminum. Here is a picture of my first night. I was in heaven....

FTLAUDSKY,
Nice to know that it perform well optically. I thought I read somewhere that this 5 lens models had also problems with loosing collimation as the Skywatcher 100ED...

I just got one of the new WO 102GTF's there's only a small handful of us around. Mine was one of the first delivered and the build quality is extremely good. I like the R&P focuser it's a vast improvement over the
Crayford on my Zenithstar 80FD.

I haven't had it out for first light yet and I have no idea when the weather Gods will allow it. I've had one clear weekend night in two years so I guess I'm not going to rush it. Anyway I hope you enjoy your new 81

The GT81 is a triplet. The GTF is the new 5 element design.

Here is a brief overview of the scope by me (newbie)- my first scope; now have two (thanks craiglist), and working on getting a third already in a couple weeks.. :-)

1. Length - scope is small looking to me (487MM) but semi fast at F5.9 (I call him stubby)
2. Weight - around 8 lbs and feels like a tank (solid)
3. Focuser - new R&P design doesn't slip or move
4. Looks - I love the blue aluminum and the white is textured
5. Mount - comes with the dovetail foot - I attached it to a plate and is super solid. They increased the distance between the 1/4 20 mounting holes - Rings will also work
6. Glass - triplet with FPL53 what else is there to say - I went looking for CA and found none - sharp focus - Moon has no hint of CA. I am also sensitive to it so if it was there I would have seen it.
7. Collmination - perfect (had a QC signature on the box)
8. Field Flattner - works great with my DSLR

In the end I am super happy with my purchase. If I could do it over again I would definitely buy it again without hesitation. My friend came over and wants to buy it from me after seeing Jupiter for the first time. We shall see. I am trying to get him into the hobby so I can share my new found passion. There are a ton of manufactures selling quality scopes. Choosing one is a difficult decision. Atleast it was for me. If you are looking for a quality 80 APO the WO GT81 should be on your list.

OP - Congrads on a beautiful scope and look forward to your first light and experiences

By the way - saw my first satellite the other night - was cool seeing an object (smaller dot) going in the opposite direction and had no idea how fast they move. Pure luck that I saw it.

I received the scope, and have to admit, it's a bittersweet feeling... The scope, overall, feels great, it's like a little tank. However, after inspecting it, I found that it came with very dusty optics in both sides of the objective... What a bummer... I sent a message to Agena Astro to see how this can be sorted out... I love the scope but the dust in the objective is pushing me to return it, even if I can't get another of the same model...

turtledude1, Hi, I'm really thnking of getting a W/O gtf 102, I already own a zenithstar 70 ED dobulet f/6 2012 serial # 25 great little scope, I'm so close to ordering the 102,thought I must say I did'nt like hearing about the dust on the inside of the objective lens of Gustavo's GT81, although i never had a problem with W/O I have read some things in the past few years I did'nt really want to hear.If anyone else owns a GTF 102 I'd like to hear anything good or bad about it or any other recently bought W/O OTA's

here's a photo through a GTF 81.

http://www.singastro...php?f=7&t=11748

the stars aren't round due to imperfect tracking but you can see that they are small to the edges of the sensor (I believe the camera is a QSI 583).

this is a much better result than my Z70 + WO flattener (on that combo the stars are round to the corners of APS-C but there is residual curvature, so the stars are larger and unfocused even though round).

wrg My GTF102 is perfect, William Yang tuned it up personally gave it a star test and signed it off. No dust no prints just a beautiful new scope and I love the R&P focuser.
As I told William I just wish it came with the white rings instead of black they would look so much better with the red and white.

I decided to try to clean the optics very slightly, and although I still have some dust specks inside the objective, it's not as annoying as before...

Here is my new DSO imaging setup...

I would like to make note that Manish from Agena Astro was quick to respond to this situation. At least I got support in this. It looks like the WO QC department had some hiccup with my scope...

Did it ship from WO or Agena? If Agena, then they did a poor job of QC and shouldn't pass the blame to WO.

The scope was indeed shipped from Agena, but since the scope is in great condition with the exception of the issue mentioned above, I decided (at least for now) to keep it. It looks like a quick cleanup will fix it.
