I've used professional research microscopes for years and tend to be fussy about focus. With that, while I tolerate the courseness of the 130SLT, I think this scope would greatly benefit from a better focuser. My question: is there a third party replacement to the existing focuser that offers smoother, finer focusing? Alternatively, any DIY projects that improve the 130's focuser?

Try this from Orion. I use it on mine. If you are not planning to keep the scope, then do not bother.

That and the constant shaking of my SLT130 are the only things really bothering me... it seems to have decent optics, but it shakes so badly that it gets frustrating... and I already spent the money to put rings on it.

That being said, it was cheap and the mirror is pretty decent.

I made the mistake of playing with a Televue TV-85 and that focuser is to die for. Oh man... ;)
