I just inherited an LXD55 mount - fresh out of the box / never been opened.

Once assembled, everything seems fine and all but there's a bit of wobble where the mount itself is connected to the tripod. Putting the OTA and counterweight on reduces it a bit but it seems that the screw that comes up from the tripod into the base of the mount is not holding the mount tightly enough.

I've screwed it in as tightly as I can and then some. Still wobbly.

I'm thinking of getting a few washers to see if that helps.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions. Thanks

The bolt/shaft is bottoming out! be careful!

It takes a little washer on the end of the bolt/shaft before you fit it through the tripod. It's a little chrome do-dad that is dished on one side(dished side down). I've gone to the hardware store when the original got misplaced and just got a couple 5/16" washers and stacked them on the end of the bolt/shaft.

If you over tighten it could strip that thread in the bottom of the mount

There's a washer but it's not dished. It's on the bottom - the underside. And there's a ton of room so it's moving up and down the screw.

I'm heading out to Home Depot to get a stack of 5/16" washers.... thanks!

Update - as it turned out I was screwing the bolt in wrong. I was putting the mount over the hole and screwing up from there when what I was supposed to do was push the bolt all the way up, center the mount over it and then screw the mount in.

All better - no wobbles. thanks zerro1
