WYO100, Tim, they are in this very thread, simply look at previous pages, its all there.

I too do not see anything about the mounts performance or if you have had a chance to get any data / images using the mount....I went through the thread....am I missing something? Sorry to bug you....I'm just curious about how the mount is performing, how starlock works, and your luck with imaging.

best of luck

Sorry, misunderstood, I have not reported any mount performance data at this time, I have only had it out for one night. I was referring to optics(Stellar), mount fit and finish(beautiful and built like a tank), photos(you will see this thing is 'BIG') and support from Meade(quite good, in fact exceptional).

I am out of state right now, as soon as I get back and figure out the software that folks want data from, I will report the mount performance data too.

I know I am going to jinx myself saying this out loud but... I got an email earlier from Meade indicating that my stuff is ready and will ship on Monday. Friday (tomorrow) customs is closed for the holiday or they would have shipped it then.

So if everything goes well I'll have it for the following weekend's club star party. I am looking forward to this and I'll be sure to post pictures etc.

Look forward to your reviews; would you be relieved of your NDA obligations when you get it?

I would assume so. I will have to verify with my attorney. I would also assume that everything that transpired during the beta is still sealed but everything that happens after I get my production stuff isn't.

I'll host a google hangout with whomever wants to attend and I'll walk through every aspect from setup to imaging.

When I get it I am going to assemble it inside my house and do a fake alignment just to hear the motors run. Then I'll put together a complete list of everything I need to take with me out to the desert and then load up and go. I won't have time for the hangout until I get back. I'd love to do it at the site but the internet connection is limited and cell phone service is horrible. Lots of pictures though.

Tony I sent you a PM. Curious how you balanced your 80mm triplet in DEC. Did that sliding brick offer enough weight? I am currently searching for ideas.

I am thinking about ( this one ) and replacing the bolt with a longer one and maybe a big flat washer.

That's prudent. I always do that before trying anything complicated with new gear, such as taking it to a remote site or dragging it up into the observatory. If there's an issue I want to catch it early!

Rumor has it that my mount will ship Monday. It'll probably take 7 days or more to make it to the wilds of Ohio, though. Might be another day or two before I can get it home (having it delivered to a friend's house because there's nobody here during the day to accept a freight shipment).

BrokeAstronomer,

I had no problems balancing the scopes. This is what I had on the mount:

14" ACF f/8
Starlock
8x50 Finder Scope
80mm Meade 6000 80mm Triplet APO
MallinCam Xtreme with cooling assembly

Here is how I balanced it:

14" scope 1/2" from being flush w/losmandy dove tail
Starlock on top of 14" flush with back of plate
Finder on 14"
80mm on Saddle plate next to 14" flush with back of plate
Starlock counter weight fully extended
3x26# counter weights 2 1/2" from bottom of counter weight shaft
Counter weight end cap (5#s)

Perfectly balance with zero motor strain...

Tony

I am very much looking forward to your review!

...I am pretty sure that a bunch of people are looking forward to it, but I just wanted to say it. You have been very patient with Meade, and I am looking forward to seeing your results.

Ah-HA! I just received confirmation from the transportation company that my stuff will be here tomorrow!! I had to back out of a family trip to the beach tomorrow so I could be home but at least this year long ordeal will finally be over.

I'll post pics/videos of the unboxing at some point. I'll also, depending on weather, be heading out to my clubs site Thursday - Sunday so I hope I'll have lots of great pictures to post.

Had a little glitch in my Wednesday delivery. Seems that the transport service requires an appointment to be made to make sure someone is home to sign for it. I had called to get an update on when it would arrive but they had some trouble finding me as they have a new computer system. After about 45 minutes they finally found it and explained it would be tomorrow (Thursday) between 8am and 12noon PST.

I am disappointed that I canceled plans with my family to wait for it but I should have known better.

White 80mm APO Trip (lower) and 50mm finder (upper) are items I previously owned. I like the white better anyways.

Too many clouds until next week so I canceled my plans for a star party. Hopefully I'll have it outside Monday-ish.

Looks like a lot of stuff on a little mount. How is it handling?
