Hi!

Yesterday we were doing some CCD astrophotography and suddenly, while finding focus the camera started acting weirdly.

At first it was doing ok, then it started sending always the same picture.
The upper half showed somekind of nebula, noise. But it didn't change no matter what we did. Covering the telescope or shining some light into it didn't affect the picture at all.
Then, after disconnecting and reconnecting it a couple of times it started sending back just plain black and it hasn't stopped doing so.
What's going on?

Could disconnecting the power from a warm (not cooled at all!) CCD while it was doing exposure damage it?

Best Regards

sounds like a power supply issue... the ADC needs -12 to -15 V, which is supplied by a DC-DC converter. if it doesn't get that, you will get a black image. But the rest of the camera still works so you can connect to it, etc. you just don't get any image.

Just tested it on two 220V to 12V adapters and a 12V battery, same result - no picture.

Sorry to hear about this.

Why don't you send an email to Atik support to the attention of Rui Tripa. This should be the best way to find a remedy to your problem.

That would be the best next step, yes.

Btw, what's Rui tripa? Another saying for "your problem"?

Sorry you are having issue, I am in a similar boat. My 314L+ started having power issues. First the subs were just black with white lines running through them, then solid black. Finally the camera just shut off, checked against 2 adapters and it would come on then have power dropouts if you so much as touched the camera or power cable. mines sent in for repairs atm, hope you can get yours working without the hassle.

Keep us updated!

Rui Tripa is one of the founding partners of Atik. He also is the technical manager.

"your problem" ? I was referring to your camera not producing a picture ?

Our 460exm also did a couple of picture with strange but straight lines before showing just plain black.

@bilgebay: Your sentence: Why don't you send an email to Atik support to the attention of Rui Tripa.

If you substitute "Rui Tripa" with "your problem" the sentence makes perfect sense xD
Just my weird thinking. xD

The email has been sent, waiting for a reply. =)

I would rather think of Rui as a solution provider :) not as a problem :)

Hope you can sort this asap and share some nice photos with us.

Cheers

Just got word from Atik, the camera is broken and needs to go back the UK for repairs.

I didn't ask yet, but this should be covered under warranty? The camera is 4 months old.

Yes, I believe Atik has a 1 year warranty. You will probably need to pay shipping to UK, but at least in my case Atik paid for return shipping. Also, I was surprised how quickly the camera was returned to me (about 3 weeks from when I sent it). That's not bad considering international shipping. But, that was before Atik was very well known on the USA side of the pond. Good luck!

I'm in Europe, so maybe it'll be even quicker :p

Actually we bought it from a retailer who'll pay for all the shipping. =)

Fingers crossed!

When I sent mine back to OPT Friday, they said 3 weeks max if it had to go back to Atik. I was really surprised, happily I might add!
