Interesting story...There seems to be a lot of speculation about the origin.. :o
Cut the rock in half and test the material for basic elements...

It is a really unusual and interesting meteorite regardless of where it originates from. I've seen and handled thousands of meteorites and meteorite fragments, and I have never seen anything like this green one.

Meteorites are a hot science news item now and the press wires and blogs are jumping on the bandwagon, circulating and recirculating these sensational stories.
It's entirely possible this meteorite is from Mercury, or that Mercury meteorites might already be sitting in a collection cabinet somewhere, misidentified at Earth rocks or another type of meteorite. But, we lack the ability to make a definitive judgement on that origin, regardless of what the media implies.
