I consider replacing my 55mm and 200mm Takumar lenses by their latest versions. Did you make a comparison of the older and newer versions? Is it worthful to buy the sharper lenses without having a vacuum back?

I can personally attest to the quality of the latest 55 and 200. Both are the sharpest lenses in the line. The newer 55 is a Distagon variant and the newer 200 is an Ernostar design. Both are very sharp wide open. Consider stopping down to f/5.6 to eliminate vignetting.

The 75/4.5(older and newer)is very sharp as well being of the classic French retrofocus style.

As for the 75/2.8, it is very sharp as well, if only you can find one.

No experience with the 55 Michal, but the 200 latest version is definitely an improvement for critical sharpness and astro work. Pricing lately has been very good for this lens as well on the bay. As far as portrait or landscape work - it would depend on your taste, but the Tak version of the 200 is quite nice for this purpose.

It's beautifull size for astrophotography. The best one, My cousin have it. We try it some years ago, in piggyback on my B&L Criterion 8000, and we had excellant result.
