I posted a sketch a few weeks ago of Orion. I had a nice view a few days ago. It won't be long and this treasure will set for the season. I always marvel at Orion it's amazing structure, and elusive detail. One could spend many nights looking at it.

Sketched with XT8 with 18mm explore scientific eyepiece.

Ken,

Very nice sketch, the star positions for the Trapezium group look very good as does the nebulosity.

Ken,
This is a great step forward - you've teased out more detail this time around and, as Frank points out, your star positions are good. This is starting to get a real 'at the eyepiece' feel to it. Beyond your sketching improvement - how much better are you observing now that you've been sketching? I reckon it's the best way to improve observing skills.

Thanks guys,
I am noticing more at th eyepiece than before. I have been sketching for a few months and used the Mellish technique for the Orion sketch. I have been working on the Moon the last few nights which is much more difficult for me to show what I see. But I am sure see more detail than a few months ago.

Thanks for the feedback.

Very nice and realistic sketch, Ken! It's really like looking through the eyepiece. My compliments. :D
