I would appreciate any input on this camera.

They have a campaign that allows you to pay in 6 months. I am not sure if this is limited to NEAF.

I need a large sensor camera to use with my FSQ106EDX but I'm on a budget.

Looked for a review of this cam but there is none.

I'm not in a hurry for buying but could use the convenient payment terms.

Thanks for your input.

I did the research on the QHY last summer and finally went with the Moravian Instruments G3-11000. It's a little more money but the choice in filter wheels among good cooling, software and overall build convinced me. I went with the 8x50 filter wheel which is installed by moravian instead of bolting on to the front like it's done on the QHY, that brings the camera back focus to 33.5mm which is really nice.

good luck with your hunt, Sedat. :)

There is a whole site dedicated to QHY images:

I am happy with my QHY9.
The QHY11 has large pixels which may not suit small aperture.

The 6 months deal is all the time, Sedat. We talked about the KAI-29050 with Dr. QiuHY tonight. He can make the camera, but it may take as long as a year. It would be one of a kind.

I got it from Europe, I don't think there is any distributor here in the US yet.

So how does the 6 month deal work? I don't see anything about it on their web site. Does it apply to any of their cameras?

Hi Warren, not sure if you were at NEAF but while speaking to the gentleman at Innovations Foresight there about his On Axis Guider, he showed me the Moravian CCD cams as now he apparently is the US distributor.

I have the QHY11 since more than one year. (the new design, not the old one).

I works very well using maximDL and the ascom driver since the begening.
There were few bugs in EZcap (the proprietary capture software which does not use ascom) but they corrected these issues. They also corrected a couple of bugs, that never affected my images so far.

I was able to compare it to the STL11000 and the Atik11000. The read noise is quite low, quite the same as the Atik, (10,8e-) while the Sbig has a little bit more noise, but probably due to the sensor manufacture tolerance.

So far I faced only 2 issues:
- there were some light leaks due to the tip/tilt ring adjuster which has many holes for adjustment screews. Some holes were not used and still open. So easilly solved by adding some dark tape onto the unused holes.
- the window is very large and not heated unlike the Atik and at the same time, the cooling system is excelent like many QHY camera. So there was a significant risk of dew.
I solved it using a simple Dewnot heater strap
To ensure I would not face any dew issue, I made a simple dry air closed circuit using aquarium parts: 2 silicon tubes, an air pump and a drying bottle made using a soda bottle.
Once I forgot to turn on the heater strap but the dew was removed in a couple of minute with this system. But I guess the heater strap is sufficient.

I am running it at -20°C in summer night with temperatures as high as +25°C and the heater starp on.

I coupled it together with the starbright 7x2" filterwheel which has fair price in Europe for such a large filter wheel. (less than 500eur)

So excelent electronics, very good cooling, small and light package which helps a lot the focuser in keeping the orthogonality unlike very heavy competitors. (important for short focal ratios like the FSQ)
(Would also be fine for the hyperstar C14)

I just requires more attention than the smaller sensors concerning the temperature vs dew

There seems to be a misunderstanding about this 6 month deal. What the they were talking about at NEAF was the interest free terms available by Paypal

"No Payments + No Interest if paid in full within 6 months on purchases of $99 or more."

I hope to be posting a review on the QHY11 as soon as possible, unfortunately my example had a bad PCB board which is presently being replaced.

Thanks Terry and Bruce. So I can buy a Paramount, a 20" RC, and any camera I want with this deal....and then pay the piper with a (likely) high interest rate once I discover I'm in way over my head, or forget to pay it off before the 6 month period...gotta love finance companies.

But back to the QHY11, Terry please post a pointer here to your review once it is up.

Cheers!
