A partial lunar eclipse will be visible from Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia during the night of 2013 APR 25-26. Based on the French model, the umbral magnitude will be 0.013, meaning that at best only 1.3% of the Moon’s diameter will be covered by the dark portion of the Earth’s shadow.

I’ve created a panorama of five phases of the eclipse as viewed from London. Although position angles would be different for other locations, the event timings will be the same if adjusted to local time zones. It can be seen at www.CurtRenz.com/moon

Descriptions and photos of the eclipse would be welcome additions to this thread.

Thanks to a second pair of eyes, my son (observing with large binoculars) warned me of the fact that an airliner would cross over the full Moon so I could capture it at maximum of the eclipse when the Moon was only 1% in the central umbra shadow of our Earth:

Belgian amateur-astronomer & astro-photographer Geert Vandenbulcke made an excellent animation of the partial Lunar eclipse: :goodjob:

I now have on my website a preview of the May penumbral lunar eclipse. The brightest Full Moon of 2013 slightly grazing the weak edge of the penumbra will have virtually no effect on its brilliance. The June Full Moon will actually approach slightly closer to the Earth’s center, but the May Full Moon’s nearness to the ecliptic enhances the oppositional flash. My related graphics can be seen at: www.CurtRenz.com/moon

During that same evening the Moon will occult magnitude +2.6 Beta Scorpii. I’ll provide data and graphics for that next month.

I made timelapse video of the eclipse.
Used old 50mm camera lens and old webcam.
1 frame /5 s and 60 fps.
