Just mailed my registration in. Hopefully we'll get a few from the Columbus Astronomy Society. We had a good time last year as a larger group!

I received an email confirmation a few weeks ago. I don't remember exactly, but I think it was maybe 3 weeks or so after I mailed the registration.

A few questions:

1. Do they run electricity lines for the participants? (I have sleep apnea and must use a CPAP machine while sleeping.) Of course I need electricity for my scopes too....

2. Food service: Breakfast Lunch and dinner? What days are they there? (i.e. if I arrive Wednesday will there be food?)

2a. Can one arrive early?

Thanks,

Dave

There is always someone arriving early. For each day before and after the star party all you have to do is to pay a nominal fee ($11 or $13? - I can't remember) for camping privileges on the observing field. If you get there early you should have no problems hooking up to the "electrical cord octopi" (permanent electrical outlets located strategically around the field). Bring your own heavy gauge octopi arms. Food was available for the Cherry Springs Star Party held this past June for a good part of the day and night (perhaps around the clock?). However the food vendor was lamenting on the fact that he/she was not making a profit. So it might be wise to bring ones' own provisions just in case.

Dave ( & Ted), camping is now $13/night for nights other than star parties. Many people arrive early, some days early. It's a good idea if you want a great spot. You pay by filling out an envelope near the bathroom, and dropping it (and your money) into the green tube. They do check! Again, this is only for non-star party nights.

There's no food vendor except during the star party, and it's pretty basic "burgers & such". They do all 3 meals and are open all night, but Ted is right, they did not seem to have a lot of business, so I hope we don't lose them in future years. There is drinkable water. I always bring supplementary food, like a pre-made salad, breakfast cereal and milk, etc, and do a meal or two at a local restaurant. The nearest restaurants are about 20 minutes one-way. Yes it's safe to leave your stuff on the field, but I'd not leave out eyepieces, etc.

There are showers at Lyman Run State Park, about 20 minutes away.

AC power: there are plenty of hookups, but you need your own power cords to plug in.

WiFi-> doesn't work really well. Cell phone service: spotty at best. The only coverage I have is with the phone built into my Chevy Silverado.

White lights, especially headlights-> turn um on and you die! :)

...except in an emergency of course.

There will be plenty of friendly folks on the field to help out a new person.

Less than 6 weeks to go and 243 registrations are still available. I'm a little surprised it's not more full, I thought it usually sold out a couple weeks in advance.

This year I sent four emails to http://bfsp.org. They told me something must be wrong on my end of cyberspace as they only received my last email. It makes me wonder.

Joe sent me the link to the PayPal (experimental) page and it worked great from my end. Now just waiting to hear if it went through on their end.
