Looking at photos on the web it looks like the OTA's for 8" Edge HD are finished creamy white...

My new one though is a kind of sparkly grey/white/silver finish...

Have Celestron changed the olour recently?

No. Those I've seen have all be a very light gray.

Actually, it's a pale green when you aren't surrounded by verdant foliage.

I'm curious if there actually are different colors out there. I suspect not, but...

To me, my C11 Edge looks to be a very pale green that could be easily taken as a cream white. Try putting a white towel or index card next to the tube and see how that alters your color perception.

Try taking this test of color sensitivity. I scored a miserable 43, though it is late at night and my eyes are tired. I'm going to try it again in the morning and see if I can do better.

The two I have look kind of pearl white with a slight greenish cast. A very odd color I might add.

Whatever happened to the old blue and whites, orange tubes or black tubes! Far easier to discern....

I really like the creamy white color. A new color for a new line of scopes! :)

Well, whatever color they are, I would personally say that the EdgeHD has the most attractive finish of any SCT I have owned. Heck, maybe any telescope. I love the color and presentation.

That being said, I described it in a review was a "Pearl" white.

It is a color though that can take on shading from ambient light conditions.

In 5K lighting, it is off-white but the metallic sheen makes it appear grayish.. Color though is off-white to my eye.

Indoors, it will take on the cast of the room that it is in. If the room is a cool color, it will look greenish. If the room is warm in tone, it will look more putty or gray.

This may account for why we here it described so differently by different people.

I know this though... It is a beautufully done telescope, and I classify it as one of the most satisfying scopes to use that I have ever owned.

I don't use mine much, but every time I do, it makes me smile. What an incredible telescope!

I've not noticed any difference in color from one Edge OTA to the next. But the pearl/metallic finish could easily make you think there are slight variations.

I'd like to be able to obtain some touch up paint for mine to touch up some minor paint scratches. Celestron says not available. Bummer.

The OTA color is Pearl White. The "pearl" is based on the "mother of pearl" color where it can show a rainbow of colors.

I own an auto collision shop and I have matched the color once before to paint some accessories. Wasn't too difficult.

I bought an aftermarket aluminum dew shield from Starizona for an Eleven HD. It was much anticipated and I opened up I saw a light grey color emanating from it, knew this was not going to go well- as I headed out to install it, on my 'creamy 'newish OTA. To my surprise, the color match was completely to my satisfaction.
I think it has a bit of a 'chameleon' finish that reflects according to the light source .

They have pearl in them, which makes them look green,I have painted many cars similar colors, depending on what color pearl is in the mix is what gives them the iridescent look from differant angles.

I did this last fall for some incorrectly colored dew shields I got for my two Edge's. See this thread:

Celestron EdgeHD White Color Match Thread

As others have said, the color is actually quite green and is a pearl. I like the color scheme a lot.

I got a high-end auto shop (Porsche, etc.) to do mine and the finish is incredible! Hard as rock, silky smooth, mirror shiny, but not an exact match. I was hard to match due to the curved surface and unique color. Pretty close though. Was not exactly cheap though given the number of coats and that it's an epoxy type paint.

Clear skies,

"It can be any color, as long as it's white..."

I've never owned/used/looked through an Edge HD, but they sound excellent

Lets see a picture of your new scope so we can see if it's different.

Greenish!

Anybody know where my camera went? I don't have a clue.
