New 5 day posting on eBay for a 1954 Questar for $1700 starting bid. New seller joined April 2013 with the name Questar1954. Only one picture and no serial number listed. I have asked for the serial number and if more pix are available. Boy, this would be a great find but I really question it.

Hi Bill,

The pictured Questar is not in original 1954 trim, neither is the shown literature. Perhaps it was serviced and had new decals attached to the forearms. Case looks newer too. The earliest Questars also had a different mount for the little mirror that bends the incoming light upwards into the control box. So I am very reluctant without further proof to assume that the seller/scope are genuine.

Case doesn't look right for a 1954 model either.

I've received no answers to my questions. The seller has not responded. He does state in the listing that he is the orginal owner.

Just received the serial number. It is 8-3277, that makes it a 1968 Q. He is sending me some more pix tonight. The 1968 makes more sense.

Seller has corrected the posting to show it to be a 1968 Q. He has posted more pix. The Q looks very good.

In my opinion one the best field units ever made. It was interesting to find out that author Arthur C. Clarke used one. http://www.cloudynig...504078/page/...

MVW,

Ha! Not sure if you're a modern astologer or an ancient Babylonian... either way you made me look it up!

Thanks for the puzzle.

I'll be keeping my tarot cards handy during tonight's observing session :)
