ASI120MM works on Win7 but XP no go???

On the Win XP pro machine everything seems to install ok but I get no picture when I open Metaguide or the capture app that came with the camera.
On my Win 7 64 machine it works no problem.
I'm hoping this is something simple but I'm at a loss for what to try.

Thing is it all installs with the usual dialogs, the camera shows in the device manager list and reports working properly, Windows does it's 'new hardware' thing and reports drivers installed, but none of the programs deliver a picture.
On the Win7 machine it installed and worked no problem.

Rafael, pretty sure the version on the disc I got is the newest one. I've tried PHD, Metaguide, Sharpcap and the usb app that loads with the install. They all act like they're connected to the camera but no picture in any of them.
Just un-installed and re-installed everything, no good.
This is driving me nuts. Hate to sound like a broken record but it installed and worked on the Win7 machine first try. It's a 100 yard walk to the obs XP computer, no internet out there.
The installation on the WinXP machine proceeds normally all the way to the point where a picture preview should appear, then nothing.
I've got the camera plugged directly into the desktop usb port with the cable that came with the camera, which worked on the other computer. Tried a couple ports, each time the 'found hardware' driver install happens normally.
This reminds me of the last time I tried to get the Meade LPI to work, only the LPI would give me a picture for a few frames before quitting. Gave up on that, I'm really not very good at figuring out driver problems.

This has gotta be some checkbox not checked, some update missed or something stupid like that.

I don't know jack about video or web cams but there must be 'something' missing or turned off in XP. I know the camera works and the cable is good.

can you test in another usb port?
try small resolutions like 320*240.
Just to make sure it is not because of the USB host

I will try again but I did plug it into two different usb ports, one on the front of the desktop and one on the back. Each time Windows does the 'found hardware' driver install and acts like everything is fine.
I also tried a couple different resolutions and the usb camera app opens with different sized windows, says it's connected to the ASI120MM but no picture. I will try the smallest res next time.

Did an install on a Win XP Thinkpad, works fine.
This is crazy. Short of a new install of XP I'm at a loss for what to try. (Really don't want to do that, everything else works.)

I discovered what's keeping the camera from displaying an image. I have a cheapo Staples powered 4 port usb hub on the scope that runs the imaging cam, guide cam and filter wheel. The hub is connected to the computer through a Tripplite active extension cable. I was not plugging the ASI camera into the hub but into a separate port directly on the desktop.
I unplugged everything usb, did a 'safe mode' boot, uninstalled 'root hubs' and started plugging things in one at a time. That got the camera working.
But, as soon as I plug in the 4 port hub, in a separate port on the computer, the camera stops working. Unplug the hub the camera unfreezes and starts working fine again.
Gonna try a different brand hub but I'm not optimistic.
Any of this sound familiar to anybody?

Is the hub powered by USB or another separate power source?
maybe the power of USB is not enough when plugin some many devices. so a seperate power hub maybe a good try

I've ordered a different brand powered usb hub but I figure it's likely the computer won't know the difference and do the same thing it's doing with the hubs I have.
