Oops. Seems I wasn't aware of image posting guidelines in effect at CN when I posted a pic here. Sorry about that CN moderators.

The gist of it was that I took the plunge and ordered a CGEM DX 1100 HD.

C11. The C14 was over my budget AND my ability to transport/set up solo, since I would have wanted the CGE Pro mount with that OTA. I went for its smaller brother. This will be my first large telescope and I'm really looking forward to getting acquainted with it. It's shipping today and should arrive in time for a camping trip I'm doing in Sedona on the 18th & 19th. Woo-hoo!!!

Looks nice. Hopefully the purchase didn't create cloudy skies for the next 2 weeks. :cloudy:

Thanks George. So far the long range forecast is looking good as far as cloud cover goes. I love living in the southwest! :)

Congrats! I really am in love with mine. FWIW, the Feathertouch microfocuser is just gorgeous and is really a recommended upgrade. :)

Thanks Wes! I do plan on going with a different focuser, but I need to research the pros/cons of a replacement like the Feathertouch or a rear cell unit. Was mirror flop an issue with the stock focuser on your C11 and if so did the Feathertouch mitigate it?

Grats. Im glad you went with the Edge 11. Mirror flop is not an issue with the edge due to the mirror locks.

You will not be disappointed.
Like i mentioned before a different diaganal is worth investing in, and a new focuser is never a bad thing.

And by the way. the picture you posted is of the Edge HD on the PRO mount
Grats again

Thanks Momerath, and you're right about the wrong image! Just changed it to the DX. Wishful thinking must have impaired my judgement. :)

Also, I meant to say image shift in my question to Wes about the Feathertouch focuser, not mirror flop.

I didn't actually replace it because of mirror flop, the locks work pretty well actually. I replaced it because the stock focuser is coarse and tricky to hit critical focus with. I'm just really picky about focusers. The Feathertouch is so smooth and that 10:1 fine adjuster is just wonderful.
I do have a feeling that I will want to stick a Moonlight or FT Crayford focuser on the back and lock the mirror down for AP when I get further along. ;)

The UPS guy delivered my CGEM DX 1100 HD today but alas, there won't be any observing with it for me tonight. Here's the booty before I started unpacking...

I opened the box with tripod first, naturally, and thought something looked funny. So, I pulled the bottom out of the box for a look. What the????

Upon closer inspection it appears that this item has obviously been USED. The tips of the legs are completely marred and scratched, there are scratches on the legs themselves, and the whole tripod is covered with dust...

On top of that, the box that should have contained the accessory tray and leg retaining bolts was... empty.

Total disappointment!!! Instead of looking forward to first light with a new telescope this evening I'll have to wait until Friday when a replacement is delivered from Adorama.

Talk about a letdown. :bawling:

Oh man! That's not right at all! I'm really sorry to see that.

I'm constantly amazed that someone somewhere thinks that its acceptable to repackage used or damaged products as new.

After inspecting the boxes for the tripod and CGEM more closely it looks to me as if they definitely were a customer return that Adorama shipped to me as new. I am REALLY surprised by this. I've done a lot of business with Adorama in the past and they've ALWAYS been top-notch. I am NOT a happy camper right now.

What's this world coming to? :ohgeeze:

Yep. Only the mount and tripod boxes were strapped. The OTA and counterweight cartons were also in great condition, unlike the other two.

They're shipping a replacement out tomorrow for a Friday delivery, but I'm half tempted to simply return the entire purchase for a refund. I suppose there's a chance that it was a mistake, but if so then someone at the company needs some remedial training in inventory management.

Well, I get why you'd want to do that on principal, but if they are willing to make it right, then you'd only be inconveniencing yourself. You may as well let them take care of you.
