I currently use a NexImage5 for my planetary imaging and have had very good results. I have recommended to consider upgrading to the ZWO ASI120MC. Does anyone have experience with this CCD camera for feedback?

There is also the DBK 21AU618.AS from Imaging source that has been out for a while. Any opinions about this one vs. the ZWO?
Thanks
Barry

Very nice image! I am working with a C8 on a CG-5 mount and I was told that with the ZWO that there would be enough sensitivity to be able to use my 2X Barlow and get up to 30 fps. With my present NexImage5, I'm limited to 15 fps and no Barlow. I do get very nice images by joining multiple files to get my frame count up.

Did you have any issues with downloading the drivers?
Did you use SharpCap or FireCapture for image acquisition?
And did you have any issues with installation and using it on our PC?
Thanks
Barry

Either the DBK or ASI will be a large improvement on your current cam. The ASI is wonderful (I have the mono). The guy who builds these is active on the board and a lot of folks have jumped. As with any new electronic gadget, getting drivers and software smoothed out has taken some time. But, unlike dealing with Dell (or some other massive company), the guys writing code and assembling parts are posters here.

for your questions
1&3 no, i have no problem download and install the driver on my PC, I use Window 7.
2 i use SharpCap, FireCapture get no responding sometime.
as for the fps, I think it's limited by shutter speed, for the image i just show, i use 50 gain and 100ms shutter, so it's a 10fps video for 5 min and i stacked 60% of the frames. to get higher fps, you need faster shutter, then you have to use higher gain and you will get more noise which i don't like.

Thanks for the feedback. I just ordered one. Hopefully the set up and learning curve will go smoothly

I love my ASI120MC. I've only had it for a few months, but I've managed to get some good shots of Saturn, the moon, and the sun. Here's a shot of Saturn through my C6.

Hi Joel, your saturn looks so much bigger than mine, what barlow you used for imaging?

I used a 2x TV Barlow. I increased the image size with Photoshop. Nice image, by the way.

Well I did receive my ASI129MC. I got the drivers installed. Verified that it provides an image on the bench. However I am having problems with running FireCapture. The application launches but after 2 or 3 operations, FireCapture totally locks up. Anyone experience this or any suggestions what might be causing this to happen?
Thanks
Barry

Which version of FC are you using? Latest is 2.3.

When I go on to the FireCapture website, it only shows version 2.2. It has a note about build #43 and a note that version 1.3 is not longer available from PGR download site (not sure what that means either)

Here is a link. I've yet to hear of anyone reporting trouble and I haven't had any myself.

Paul
I got the version 2.3beta installed and I am now up and running on FireCapture. Now I have to learn how to use it. I've been previously using iCap2.2 with my NexImage5 which has a simpler user interface and straight forward. FireCapture seems to be a bit more complicated with many more features. I just need to figure out which features are the most important ones for planetary imaging.

Hello to everyone
Just got a ASI120MM camera and I can't connect for more than 2 minutes. The camera locks the computer and I'm forced to power down. I downloaded the driver from the ZWO website. What did I do wrong? I'd love to get this camera up and running in the next day or two. The weather man promises clear skies. Any help is appreciated.
thanks
Gerry

Thanks for your reply Sam.
I'm using the software that came with the camera. I hesitate to use another program before I get the camera working with it's native software. I'll keep trying.
thanks

I notices on the zwoptical site that this camera also supports narrow field DSO imaging (up to 1000 sec exposures). The lunar and planetary support a variety of resolutions and frame rates with exposures as fast as 64 microseconds.

Why is the color camera cheaper then the BW?
From reading the other post it appears you can make a color image from the BW model, ??

What kind of laptop minimum speed is required to run it properly? I think it said it will run on XP.

Thanks!
