Hello oh wise ones,

just got a Celestron/Skywatcher "AllView" mount and want to mount the head on a different more sturdy tripod. Removed the AllView mont head from its original tripod via three mounting screws with knurled knobs, and found a central screw hole at the bottom of the mount head that looks like 3/8" type screw hole to mount the head to a different type tripod ...

So anyone know what size screw that is? If 3/8" what would be the thread count? Could it be a metric screw, what size? Anybody out there who has attached this mount head to a different tripod?

Let me know, cheers and beers,

Michael

its pretty much guaranteed to be metric that much i can tell you. easiest thing to do would be go to the hardware store and buy a few M10 sized bolts of different thread pitch, should only be 2 different ones i think, a coarse one and a finer one.

thanks frito - guess a pilgrimage to the hardware store it is - finding metric screws here in Sweden should be easy - M10 ish then ... but if its American size 3/8" what is the most common thread pitch? 3/8-16, or 3/8-18??? (unfortuntely i don't remember anything over 1/4-20)
Cheers,
Michael

This is only a guess of course as I have never used an Allview mount but the "standard" tripod screw sizes are 1/4-20 for smaller equipment and 3/8-16 for larger equipment. If that central screw is 3/8 then I would bet it is 3/8-16.

I took a look at the product page for the AllView mount and one of the features are:

"- 3/8” tripod socket for mounting to virtually any prosumer tripod"

So ya, I say that means 3/8-16 is indeed what the central bolt is!

well there you go. it makes sense if its a standard thread for consumer tripod's but you can be assured most anything else on it will be metric.
