Rob, did you get that NexStar 5SE for $350? I have someone who found a similar ad on Craigslist asking me if it is legit.

The ad for these in Hartford, MA has identical photos as the ad from Houston, TX.

They both claim to have 6 telescopes bought at auction.

Hi Steve:

Same photos for both ads seems pretty suspicious. The key to buying anything from carig's list is to be sure you can go to the seller and see the item in person. If they want to ship it to you, or won't let you see it first for ANY reason, then don't buy it ... probably a scam.

If you can see it in person, try it out, and check it over carefully, then you should be confident in your purchase.

I tried to pull up a old add on craigslist after seeing this post, man I can't remember when but I seen these same photos and if I remember right same description! Wow! This was under Los Angeles or San Diego can't remember.

Does the seller's email address match any previous ads? He says there are six available. However, seems like they would have all been sold by now, if legitimate.

I suspect it is not legitimate. My guess is that if you try to buy one you will get a different answer depending on how you plan on buying it. If you ask to pay when you pick it up you would be told he sold the last one. If you ask to have him send it to you then he will take your money.

Arctic_Eddie, you're near Tampa. You could ask to take a look and see what happens.

I love my 5SE for showing people the Moon and planets. It is very portable and perfect for outreach events. I also use it to quickly determine if the seeing is good enough for me to haul out and set up my bigger scope.

Here is an image I took with my 5SE using the NexImage 5 webcam.

That's utterly exquisite.

There was no reply to my query about inspecting the scope in person.

It's appears to be a Simple Case of Administrative Malfeasance(SCAM).

PS
The page in the link is now dead.

I'm guessing if someone from out of state suggested they would like it mailed to them and asked if he/she would take a check then there would be a response.

The links to the Houston and Hartford sites are dead but the Tampa one is still alive.

http://tampa.craigsl...4051298193.html

I am now more confident that nobody is getting a $700 scope for $350. Thanks for checking this out.

It was the original Hartford link that I checked.

You're right, a check or money order should get a quick response.
