I was sitting on my patio and looking at the mountains, when I heard a woosh and saw something about the size of a 2 or 3" dark rock whiz down from the sky and heard it hit the ground just beyond the wall the surrounds my back yard. There was nothing overhead. I went out to where it would have landed but couldn't find anything, but that area is a dry river bed with lots of rocks and sand. Could that have been a meteorite?
