Have learned much from reading the posts. Was waiting till I got my 3.5 from
the "Mother Ship" as you call it, before I posted. Your posts helped me decide
to get the scope I drooled over in S&T magazine when I was a teenager.
Received it today, nearly 20 weeks after ordering it. Jim was absolutely great
to deal with. Professional and very accommodating.
Anyhow, to the point, I have a few questions:
1. When manually pushing the scope in RA and Dec, should it be a little stiff ?
I'm used to a C8 which pretty much moves freely so I was a bit surprised of how
stiff the Q was when I tried moving the scope (without the slow mo knobs) .
Maybe, because there are no clamps on it like the C8, it has to be a bit stiff.
2. The clamp (knob) on the fork on the opposite fork that the Dec Manual Slow
motion knob. What is it for ? Should it remain loose or should it be snug when
using the scope ?
I'm sure I'll have more questions as time goes on but would appreciate some help
with these questions.
First light, I hope, will be tonite !

I would not get carried away with loosening the ascension dial, the adjustment screw can disengage altogether. Stiff is good, slippage is bad.
The dial on the L fork if turned counter clock wise can lock (or at least stiffen) the declination dial on the R fork mount. I just leave it loose. I have never found a need to use it at all.
