Does anyone have a picture of a classic scope with either green or red OTA.
Could you post a pic or 2, especially if it has a brass cell and focuser.
With thanks,

The paint will go onto this one:

Hi Matt,

Not quite what you asked for but here is my Jaegers 6" f5 refractor with GSO focuser and home made brass adapter. The green paint is Brightside marine enamel.

My vote is for vintage green I just love to look at those! I commend you for your restoration of that scope, I really enjoy seeing them restored.

Hi, are you looking for a great color that goes with brass, if so I would like to refer you to the Seagrave Alvin Clark & Sons refractor, possibly the most Beautiful Clark telescope ever made.

Green will be good. Most bright colours will go well with shiny brass or even gloss black. Here is a nice blue one.

I remember seeing a green refractor here some time ago but cannot find it again. I think I will go with the green, although I do love the look of that Seagrave Refractor T1R2 mentioned.

I find "oker" color the best match for the brass parts and the whole scope!!!

Here's my red 60mm.....but with that fine brass, I'd vote green, it'll set the brass off better.....

The scope is powder coated in a color called "Rebar Green" and has an emerald metallic clear coat.

Sparkles in the light.

Brass looks good with other colors but black takes it to the next level...

Thanks for the the pics and comments one and all. I think I have now decided to go with the colour of the old style bankers lamps which is the same as the 'continue' button below.

That color combination should be quite beautiful. I've always like the deeper pure green hues. And they look phenomenal with polished brass.

Just one comment- you are going to make the interior a dead flat black, aren't you? Krylon 1605 is ideal. Tamiya XF1 is very flat black, and will come off with nothing but isopropyl alcohol 10 years from now.

I was in my above post going to vote for 'British Racing Green" which is about 'continue' color.
I did my 60mm in red, because I thought that looked better with a black focuser and dew shield. I used a red - and black - metallic auto paint on mine, but wasn't really impressed with the coverage or durability of modern spray-can paints..... but if you go to an auto parts store that specializes in selling real auto paint, they can set you up with good quality paint - and can suggest an auto-body painter who would likely paint it really reasonably and professionally, if you're not up to the task yourself.....

Thanks again guys,
Rich, I will paint the interior flat black, not sure if I can get Krylon in Oz though.

Roscoe, I have a friend who runs a professional bodyshop who will paint it for me.

Jim, thanks, I have seen that scope and love the colour but will reserve the red for my next project which will be a 4" F15 or 5" F12 in the 'steampunk' tradition. (next year's project)

The Tamiya XF1 is a Japanese acrylic model paint- I would think you could find it. Some airbrushing would be in order, though.

If not, try out a few different flat blacks painted on strips so you can compare. Some are much flatter HD blacker than others (by quite a bit). You can get a super flat finish by holding the can back so the paint is drying some before it lands.

Thanks Rich, I will look that up.
I have also decided to have a new focuser built for me by Dan at Crawmach and will save the above focuser for another project.
