Hi all,

My view of Saturn in fair seeing but with an 11.5 day old Moon just 5 degrees away. Prepared template and 2B pencil with text added in Paint.net.

Regards,

Mel R.

Nice drawing, particularly as Saturn is long past opposition

Mel,

This is very nice sketching of Saturn.
Now let me ask you. You don't have trouble with the Moon nearby while sketching Saturn do you? Certainly seeing some of the faint moon could be a problem but you don't have contrast problems with the moonlight while sketching the planet.

Frank :)

Thanks to all for the kind remarks.

Frank, circumstances have left me with little observing time this year (pretty much missed Jupiter) but I was out the next night - 20th - with the 12.5 day moon 8 degrees away and had essentially the same view of Saturn.

I'm in a white zone for starters and don't know yet how much difference moonlight makes with this scope. I'll find out eventually.
