I have an 8x50 finder that uses .965 18mm eyepiece with 90 deg. diagonal. If I take the diagonal off, then I can't extend the helical focuser out enough to achieve focus.

So I am looking for a way to extend the focus out so I can spot without the diagonal. Most barlows I have found for .965 are 3x and way too long.

Holding the eyepiece back, it looks like I wouldn't need more than 2 or 3 inchs. Does anything exist that would help here?

You can try this....

Should give you the two inches and more that removing the diagonal requires. Of course, you will have to probably punch the barlow out.

I took apart one of those double-prism image-erecting EP adapters, and found that the two end-pieces screwed together..... an instant inch of extension!

Here's a photo of my extension:

As I said, I took both the focuser-end tailpiece and the EP-holder out of one of those cylindrical image-erector adapters that came with lots of older 60mm scopes, and in my case, they screwed together. I looked at another one I have, and both ends screwed into the round prism-housing, so that one wouldn't work......
I also have a short 2x barlow that came with a newer 60mm that's around 3" total length, which would work as an extension if the lens was removed, but it's plastic, so might not be real durable.....
Unfortunately, I messed up the best photo of my adapter shrinking it to post here (my computer's a linux os, and the photo program is a bit more complicated than my mac was...) so here's the second-best view.....

Ahh ok, thanks for sharing that... I found someone here in the classifieds with an extension for sale. But if that doesn't work, I guess I will just get the vixen adapter and convert it to 1.25"...
