I have recently started carrying my SolarMax II-equipped SV70ED, along with iOptron CubePro and a small photo tripod to the office on sunny days. The whole equipment fits in a small backpack, including a Barlow, two eyepieces, a NexImage, and one of those old Windows XP net books that fit in your pocket, and survives the legendary crowded Tokyo commute handily.

At lunch time, I set it up on the emergency stairs outside, point it to the sun, and open the door to the stairs so anybody can see me - several curious colleagues have come to look through and be blown away! Another employee and friend now wants to go for an outing to a dark site with my visual equipment. And lastly, with just 5 minutes to do so, I manage to capture an out-of-focus image of the sun, but which still impressed a bit.

Pretty fun lunch breaks!

:goodjob:

I work at a university and I often keep my PST in my office. Sometimes I set up on front of our building. I get a lot of interested people.

Yannick:

That sounds like an interesting idea. How far do you have to go from Tokyo to get to reasonably dark skies?

Reasonably dark skies: maybe two hours. But even suburban skies would be great for Saturn, the moon, and M42 once it comes up...
