The Southern Maine Amateur Astronomers monthly meeting featured an interesting presentation by Professor David Batuski of the University of Maine Orino campus, on our local galaxy group and its place in the structure of the Universe. Closed galaxy clusters and photos of gravitational lensing by their massive effect on light from galaxies behind them. He was able to communicate the complexities while explaining the process with out over emphasizing the complex math involved in the process. The shape and nature theories of the universe were presented as well questions involving the dark matter/ dark energy mystery. Professor David Batuski was willing to stay for a period following the presentation to answer questions from individuals and was a pleasure to talk with. I've been with the club for less than a year and the attendance for this mid summer night was the largest gathering of members I've seen.
My best evening at a club meeting so far. Just felt like sharing it with you.
Be Well
