Anyone in the Southern California area, I'll be up at Cow Canyon Saddle tonight in Mount Baldy. It'd great to have some company!

I've ridden my bicycle past Cow Canyon Saddle (popular cycling route) many times but never thought of it as a viewing site due to the city lights below. How is the viewing from there? I've never been there at night.

Viewing was pretty awesome! Huge step up from in the city. The darkest parts of the sky are the northeast, east, and north. Big light done takes up the south, but even then, the seeing is hugely improved from at home. I'll be making a full report sometime soon

I kinda figured the southern skies would be a wash from there. Looking forward to your report!
I drove up to Mt Pinos that evening and situated myself at the very northeast corner of the lot so I can see as much southern part of the sky as possible. Along with my dob I also took my binoculars and a beach lounger for this purpose.

Gee, I'm usually in southern California at this time for my friend's son's birthday on July 13, but this year, money became an issue. I might've joined you.
