I would like to safe my observatory using a security system.
Did you install a such system for your observatory ?
Which one ?
Thanks a lot,

I have a IP camera that records a view of my shed. To be honest though, it'd be tough to ID anyone on it other than to show your insurance company that it indeed was stolen.

I guess it depends where uour OB is located?

Instead of a guard dog, here is a picture of what I use. And they come free in Arizona This little fellar was only 30 yards from my observatory. And they carry a nice little punch as this poor visiting Aussie found out HERE

I am located in France.
I would like to know if you have already put an alarm system in your observatory ? I found this one on http://www.kit-alarme-maison.com . There are motion sensor and open door sensor. Apparently, it is possible to add a camera. Did you install a such system ? If yes, how you proceed ? Astronomy is expensive and I want to protect everything.

Although I have never installed a security system I have considered mounting a video camera and view screen so that anyone approaching the observatory would see themselves on video. In France at least that should be enough to discourage most.
If they really want in they will get in. Talk to your insurance company and make sure you are adequately covered.

The IR light can be turned off when you're busy in the Obs, it's a wireless signal into your house (use a freeware program called "ISPY") and it will email alerts.
It is not an outdoor enclosure, but have not had a problem using it inside my Obs all year.
Here's a snapshot of my Obs

You can see where I'm at here. Oh, and I'll also have and eight channel DVR security camera system with remote access.

Almost all systems can be partitioned into 2 or more separate systems so you can operate both the house and the obs individually.
as for cameras, all CCTV cameras produced today are very sensitve to IR light, so getting proper illumination wont be an issue as most of the consumer available cameras have built in illuminators. Supercircuits.com is an exellent site for home security and affordable. IP video will offer megapixel resolution but you will need network between the camera and recorder; you may also give up some of the low light and IR sensitvity that you get with CCD cameras.
