The Olympic Astronomical Society will hold our 22nd annual Fall Camp Delany star party at Sunlakes state park near Ephrata, WA from 3 to 6 October. The cost is $55 and includes a place to sleep (bunkhouse), 8 meals, dark skies and great location. We also have limited dry camping spaces for RVs so sign up early if you want a spot. The sign up sheet is attached and there is more information at our website here. Many of you have joined us in the past and are welcome again. I hope to see you there. Cliff

Hello Cliff

I had visited Dry Falls this August. It is a wonderful place.

I would like to join this wonderful occasion.

Are there some bunk house spots still available?

thanks

Weather forecast is looking somewhat cloudy, but no forecast rain. Hoping the forecast and actual weather will change for the better. In any case, I will be there. Starting to pack up the trailer today!

Arrived this afternoon, staying at the State Park campground for tonight. Will move over to Camp Delany tomorrow. It was cloudy at dusk, wind picked up around 10 pm tonight, some dim stars are visible, but looks like high clouds. Snug in the trailer for tonight planning for the rest of the week. Forecast for tomorrow night (Thurs night) looks very good. Friday night's forecast is improving, but still holds for 28% cloud cover. Crossing fingers for further improvement. Not too cold out, weather site says 47 degrees. Looking forward to another Camp Delany experience!

Had a great time at Camp Delaney!! Cliff and the nice people of the OAS always put on a great event.
The first night was the best of the three, with transparency averaging about 7/10 to my eyes and seeing being a 3/5 and dropping to about a 2/5 as the night wore on.
It was however, very dark. :)
I worked on the Camp Delaney observing challenge and was very happy to see ( with help from Cliff and his very contrasty 12" dob ) the Witch head nebula, a new one for me!!! :jump:
We were treated to a nice display of meteors all three nights. The night was replete with a serenade of Coyotes, Screech owls, Great Horned owls, and another bird yet to be identified.
A handful of us called it bedtime about 5:30am.

The second night transparency was a ho hum 5/10, but the seeing improved to a nice 4/5. Still very usable because of the darkness. Had nice views of Neptune and Uranus as well as a few planetary nebulae.
A group of about 15 students from Hazen High school in Renton, Wa. attended. It was nice to share the night sky with the youngsters. They brought their own scopes consisting of 4.5" newts mounted in dobsonian bases. I thought that was a great idea and re-purpose of these seemingly throw away scopes.

Night three was iffy viewing because of the high clouds drifting through. Still was able to see much more than at home, so no complaints here!! :)
Had some fun taking wide field shots of the observing field and painting redlight over the scopes and people.
Can't wait till the next one!!
