Getting a new scope/mount for DSO AP
Posted 02 August 2013 - 01:14 AM
After some good feedback here I took advantage that I still had an open return window on my cube mount to do a return and plan to get a new, more steady set up for AP.
I've decided I would prefer to do DSO with some visual on the side.
I'm currently looking at getting the Orion Sirius EQ-G, but I also noticed that the Atlus EQ-G is at nearly the same price point, only $250 more.
Is there any major differences between these mounts for AP other then carry capacity?
Any others that perform the same or better at the same price point or cheaper?

As Jim states, the iEQ-45 gets a certain amount of good press as well. So does the the ZEQ25.
You don't state what will be riding on it and of course that might make a difference in terms of what we would recommend.

Edit: Madratter posted as I was writing. Great minds think alike

As for what to put on it, I'm probably going to spring for the Orion bundle that has an 8 inch newt and tag a coma corrector on it, then later on get an auto-guide set up.
Anyone know if that package newt can handle imaging?

if portability is of little or no concern I'd opt for the biggest, most solid mount you can afford. (cost performance wise the Atlas is very hard to beat)
