I have the short Tristand so when viewing I sit pretty low to the ground. I'm thinking about getting the taller Astropier so I can stand sometimes. Here is my question to those of you who have experience with the Astropier. With an adjustable observer's chair, is it also possible to view while seated?

Thanks,
Bob

Bob,

FJR made most Tristands over the years and they still are making them and selling via various vendors. I also understand they still sub-contract for Questar whtn the new owners need an additional source (the new owners are also a CNC company). FJR also sells the Tristand and Astropier at a lower cost than Questar.

I'm not sure of the height difference but you can call FJR at 262-338-3389 and they will provide you with this information. You will then be able to raise your Tristand that height and see if you like it for viewing (might use a wooden box, be careful).

The nice part is FJR will be able to sell you the mount without the head. You can then move your head to the new Astropier base. A new Tristand head lists at $799 and the new whole Tristand is $1399 so an Astropier base will probably cost about $650 ($600 + $50 for the extra height). The last used Astropier I saw went for $1200.

Give them a call, Bill
