Since it was cloudy during prime lunar viewing last night I thought I would post a sketch I did of Archimedes last month.
Done through an 8" Dob, very good seeing that night ( July heat wave in the northeast, but very steady air.
Done using black Artagain sketch paper and white and black Conte crayons.

Another beauty, Randolph! Perfect shadowwork and very convincing textures and shades for the crater floor. You know, it's drawings like this one that keep me from having a go at the moon myself. I'd feel to humble next to so much talent. :)

Thank you Tom and Peter.
Peter you make me blush :)
Don't let anything stop you from giving lunar sketching a try. I've tried various charcoal/white paper methods for lunar sketching, but I always end up smearing the charcoal. White and black Conte crayons and pastels on black paper really work for me ( good control against messing it up ). I used to disdain the moon for deep sky observing ( only recently gave deep sky sketching a try ) until I tried lunar sketching. When the seeing is good...OMG! The only other world whose surface we can see in 3D detail ( wonder if anyone will ever go back ). Combined with sketching, a truly rewarding experience.
