Anyone know the part number for just the encoder? Or have one for sale? Celestron wants $132 for a new motor and encoder assembly.

Yes it is bad, scoped the output and nothing.

Celestron does not sell the encoder separately. The encoders were made by US Digital in Vancouver, Wa (#EP-4) and they were supplying them up until about 4 months, but they are no longer supporting them.(Discontinued) Apparently Celestron has another source for encoders now.

The specs for the encoder are; 256 cpr with .091" (2.3mm) shaft size.

This is the most common reason for motor "run on". Any small voltage spike and the encoders fail. I have purchased used motors for much less than the new Celestron price. Celestron use to sell the motors for $29, but that was was a while ago. They raised the price from $29 to $132 over night about 2 years ago with no explanation.

From digging at part numbers it looks like this one is 180cpr, I have the optical chip ordered from digikey to try.

Well that restored dec function. This is the board version I used it on. Not fun to solder back in without surface mount tools.
