Apparently this new faint SN was discovered yesterday, you would need a pretty large scope to see this (unless it brightens more)

I looked at IC1296 with a 16-inch scope a week ago but no trace of the supernova (discovered on August 11). However, the galaxy was not particularly difficult to spot. I could glimpse stars down to V=16.6 with 300x. SQM-L about 20.7.
