I bought an ETX-70 at a yardsale, but unfortunately it came to me in pieces. I have managed to get it back together except for one part - I can't figure how the piece I have seen referred to as the "friction sleeve" fits in the OTA.

Can anyone give me any advice?

Thanks!

Marcy

I have an ETX 80 and I just dissembled it yesterday, so I know they are similar. (There should be 2 barrels, one with lens, and one wihtout) The sleeve goes in the barrel of the OTA attached to the mount. There should be a hole drilled on one side of the OTA, should be near the rim, so make sure it lines up with the bump on the sleeve. Then slide it in place. Post some pictures if you can, they'll be helpful.

Thanks for your help - I won't be able to try this until tonight, but will let you know how it goes.

I am a little surprised at the instruction to add the lithium grease, though. The parts don't seem like they have ever had any kind of lubricant on them.

Here is a picture of the friction sleeve in the blue OTA. If you look at the right inside, you will notice the blue of the OTA showing. The rest is covered by the sleeve. Hope the picture helps.
