I alway precede the stated number with a zero and only the first four digits of the full SAO number?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Pete,

Yes, that appears to be the right way to access any SAO star your require.

I have a version 4:13 HC. In my case, (and probably yours too), the SAO catalogue can be accessed by either pressing the "Star" button or from the "List" button, (scrolling where necessary).

On attaining SAO "on screen", mine confronts me with 4 X Zero digits plus XX, (i.e. 0000XX). If then, for example, I wish to view Vega via this (long winded) route: based on the knowledge that SAO catalogues Vega as SAO67174, I leave the first digit, (as you suggest), on Zero and then begin to enter 6...7...1.

At this stage, the HC fills in the last two digits but not necessarily, the 7 followed by the 4. In my case, mine reads 067102. However, I then merely need to scroll to give me the appropriate last two, (74) digits.

Best regards,
Tel

Thanks Tel!

I've got a list of 36 doubles coming up. In star hopping - well eight can be a fair evening and my max is about 15. Star hopping 36 pairs though in a few hours... Yikes.

At any rate Ive never had such a grand list as 36!!! Such is GOTO.

Thanks for your help.

It takes 6 digits so Polaris which is 308 you will need to enter 3 Zeros...and you will notice that after you hit the "3" the 08 is automatically entered..

BUT what happens if you wanted to enter 305 306 0r 307 ??? its easy just use the 6 or 9 key to go up to 309 or down to 307

took me a while to discover the way around the automatic jump ...
