It has a red dwarf companion 2.5 light-years away.

Neat! Over 5-1/2 degrees distant on the sky. This star is quite weakly bound to Fomalhaut. At the tidal limit, a companion's orbital period would be roughly 100 million years; this star's period is calculated as being about 20 million years. At some point in the distant future there is a good change this red dwarf will become unbound.

I was looking at Fomalhaut through the binoculars the other night at a star party.
