On Thursday morning, October 3d, I was up early and observed Jupiter with my 70mm achro. I was fortunate enough to catch what at first I thought was a double transit, later finding out I was observing Io's shadow and Ganymede transiting Jupiter. This was something new to me and fascinating enough that I wanted to record it in a sketch. It's not one of my better sketches, but probably better than nothing.

I was lucky this morning and could see the treefold shadow cast, a very rare event. The weather forecast told something about rain, but we had gaps between the clouds here in Leipzig. The sketch shows the situation near 4:50 UT. The instrument was my 80 mm Apo at 137x, the image is mirror reversed.

Ed - great job and Uwe - you are a lucky Man. Today we had clouds and fog in Carinthia. No Stars, no Transist.
