My CG-5 AS-GT and my AVX both came with the newer NexStar Plus hand controllers. Today, just for fun, I plugged the AS-GT hand controller into the AVX to see if it would work. I was expecting it to detect the type of mount and display Advanced VX on the LCD, but instead it displayed AS-GT. However, it appeares to operate the mount normally. Now I'm wondering if the software is the same in all hand controllers or slightly different for each mount type?

The software (firmware) is, indeed, exactly the same.

Thanks Uncle Rod! I guess the mount name displayed is just encoded on a chip somewhere.

Yes, there is a mount ID function from the mount itself.
