The original ETX-125 was built before GoTo and only had a clock drive. Some refer to this as the RA model. All subsequent models used the AutoStar GoTo hand controller, which on the ETX-125 was usually the #497 controller, though I believe you could also use the simper #494 controller. These were refered to as the AT models. To reduce the cost there was also the EC model. These were the same at the AT GoTo model, but came with a simple non-GoTo electronic controller, hence the EC. Non-GoTo EC models could be converted to GoTo AT models by simply replacing the controller.

There are two main flavors of the ETX125, both were CAPABLE of goto. The original 125 had plastic forks. Later versions had aluminum castings under the plastic. The EC designation was the ETX marketed with only the Electronic Controller. Goto was available in the ETX AT (Automated Telescope) by way of the AutoStar 497 hand controller. Any EC could be upgraded to goto with the purchase of the AutoStar. Eventually, the EC line was dropped and the ETX125 only sold with the AutoStar.
