So I finally caught sight of Lovejoy today with my 12x50 binoculars. I've been trying since the end of October to see the 4 comets up there right now visible in binocs and small scopes to no avail.

But today I hit pay dirt.

Here's the sketch I made of the fuzz ball. It was in a little triangle asterism almost dead center between Leo and Leo Minor this morning at 5:30 CST. Very easily seen with direct vision as a patch of light like a circular (mostly) cloud.

The image has been mangled by the scanner and mashed by PS but it gets the idea across. This is my first real attempt at sketching a comet so bear with me...I aim to improve and can't wait to sketch it again and track the movement.

I wrote up the full observing report on my blog if you're interested.

thanks!

That is a fine sketch and a nice looking comet even from light polluted Chicagoland.

Frank :)
