Congratulations Paul, and your answer to their data plate question was ... ?

Did you order the encoder version?

I signed up on the email list. I'm glad to hear that you'll get yours first - that will give you a chance to work out the bugs for the rest of us :)

Well, I wanted the Declaration of Independence, but that was too many characters...lol. So I selected "This CEM60 mount made especially for Paul Chasse, Jan 2014."

I did order the CEM60 EC, with encoders, but iOptron said they wouldn't be available until several weeks later. Given my purchase history, they graciously offered to send me a CEM 60 to use until my CEM 60EC arrives. Naturally I jumped at that offer.

It will give me an opportunity to have used both models and note any major differences between the two. I expect both to perform well.

I do expect the CEM60 EC to perform 'weller'...:)

Now the waiting begins, cheers..Paul

That's great, Paul.

We'll look forward to you starting a new thread with your impressions.

And so the rest of us can pepper you with questions! )

The reason rumored appears to be ...

What is the source of the rumor? It's funny to talk about a rumor in a thread entitled "not a rumor anymore."

I was just referring to the possibility of a retail price increase, and the reasons for it Ed.

I emailed with iOptron customer support last week and they confirmed your rumor. Their first batch of mounts had the majority within PE specs but the second batch was much much worse. I believe the difference was the first (test) batch was tightly controlled, perhaps in-house, whereas the 2nd batch went through their normal production process.

They indicated that they might be slow in fulfilling some orders as they're rejecting a lot of mounts that aren't within spec. This is ultimately leading to production cost increases for them, but they reiterated that they're committed to staying within advertised price and advertised specs.

This will be the first iOptron mount I've owned and it's refreshing to hear that they are staying true to their advertisements.

Good to hear they are taking the time to get it right.

Very interesting mount definitely. I really like the EC version. It looks like very good mount for my future upgrade to 150mm truplet APO. Will check this thread regularly for real sample impressions.

I hope that the first person to post actual product assessment messages starts a new topic so as to separate the clutter of messages from pre-delivery from the post delivery assessment.

Good idea. This thread is getting long.

Let Paul start the new thread. He can then have a Hat Trick of some of the longest threads.

I second that thought Hilmi. I have an idea, let's call it "iOptron CEM60, First Impressions" ??

All the best...Paul

Hi Javier,

There is some news and info on the CEM60, but it is in another thread:

http://www.cloudynig...6339874/page...

Hopefully that link works, since I don't know how to link a thread directly in this forum. The thread was started by Alfred Tan, as soon as the first CEM60 EC model arrived at his doorstep in Singapore.

The mount is still not quite ready for prime time, as we initial testers are still getting the bugs out of the firmware, but the hardware is excellent.

Regards...Paul
