Dear Friends,
I just created the petition "America can save billions of dollars with efficient outdoor lighting" and wanted to ask if you could add your name too it.

This campaign means a lot to me and the more support we can get behind it, the better chance we have of succeeding. You can read more and sign the petition here:

Alan

P.S. Can you also take a moment to share the petition with others? It's really easy – all you need to do is forward this email or share this link on Facebook or Twitter:

Notice: The petition doesn't say anything about astronomy, but may be very effective anyway. Check it out. Thanks

Justin,
Yes it probably will send some other petitions for your consideration. A lot of them are about very important topics.
If you don't want them to do that, you can opt out.

Is there an example of an online petition actually having any effect at all?

Yes ! I've seen this petition site score a quite number of victories. If you do nothing, well then I guess you didn't even try. Don't be so negative. At least a lot more people will become aware of the problem. Being non assertive or timid, never won any wars.

SHOW ME ? Show you what ? What have YOU done to stem the tide of increasing light pollution ? Do you have a website ?

I've made my own bumper stickers I sell, but only have about 10 left. I doubt you've done anything.

You should realize that the President, and by extension the Federal Government has no jurisdiction over local/State lighting regulations.

Not so fast! Congress can ban the import and transport across state lines of the offending fixtures and key components thereof! This is their power under the Commerce Clause of the US Constitution.

Just signed it myself... My thought,..any effort is still better than no effort... like playing the lottery.. Cant win if you dont play. but if you do you just might win the jackpot!

I wish you all the luck in the world.
