Suggestions for keeping your computer warm

I am thinking a heat pad (a few bucks at a box store) and something like a box to keep the heat in. But I wonder about screen problems. Any suggestions? A thread I should read?
Thanks and clear skies.

I generally pull the laptops from the observatory when it goes into the teens. If they are warm and they put outside...I never had a problem.

This time of year it often get to -15C here, all I do is switch on the lightbulb for 10 minutes prior to switching on and the HD reports it's temperature between 6C-12C.
I've read that apparently HD's are happy below zero as long as they aren't running, but to run you need to get above 5C.
